Weighbridge Station

Project Name: Weighbridge Station
Client: Weighbridge Station
Project Location: Fremantle
Project Year: 2019

Built in 1921 The Weighbridge Station was historically used as an entrance to the Fremantle Ports where goods and containers were weighed prior to entry. The property is registered on the State Heritage Register and is an iconic heritage building at the entrance to Victoria quay. due to the buildings age and proximity to the coast the original lime based mortar had deteriorated and caused some of the brickwork to become unstable, with the mortar in some areas having been replaced with a cement-based mortar or left badly fretted and weathered, in some sections of the building the old mortar had completely weathered away.

Restoring the building required rebeding sections of brickwork and pointing, Removing all cement mortar and pointing the entire building with a suitable lime-based mortar. The lime mortar was selected by Fremantle City council to return the brickwork to how it would have been originally contructed.
