About Sam
In 2004, Sam moved from Scotland to Portland in England to train as a stonemason.
With its deep history in the industry, Portland was the perfect place to start his apprenticeship and career.
Sam qualified in 2007 with a ‘City and Guilds’ qualification in Architectural Stonemasonry.
Since then he has gone on to gain experience all over the world including India, where he learnt traditional marble carving skills, New Zealand, where he was the head mason on the 300 million dollar post earthquake restoration of the Arts Centre in Christchurch.
In Western Australia, Sam has worked alongside top heritage specialists on various projects including St Georges Cathedral and Government House in Perth, the Fremantle train station and various other heritage listed buildings.
As co-partner of K&S Restorations, he aims to ensure WA keeps and maintains its rich architectural history.
About Mark
Mark began his career as an apprentice plaster in the UK and after becoming qualified, he gained experience in traditional and decorative plasterwork.
In 2010, he migrated to Australia where he has continued to work in the industry, completing various jobs. These jobs include lath & plaster ceilings & walls and decretive cornice, which he carries out with traditional methods using lime mortar.
He also specialises in exterior works including re-pointing and restoration of exterior render and decretive mouldings.
As co-partner of K&S Restorations, he shares the view that WA Architectural Heritage should be preserved for future generations.
About Chris
Chris began his journey as an apprentice stonemason at the age of 16 at Harvey Stone in Somerset, England. During his training, he attended Weymouth College, where he earned a diploma and a City & Guilds qualification in Architectural Stonemasonry in 2012.
He spent several years working full-time in Somerset as a banker mason, carving stone for large-scale projects across southern England. His work included crafting fire surrounds for high-end clients in London and restoring historic churches and listed manor houses.
In 2020, Chris moved to Brisbane, Australia, where he worked as a heritage mason on projects such as Parliament House and other significant heritage sites across Queensland.
After relocating to Perth in 2022, he joined the K&S team, contributing his expertise to the restoration of some of the city’s most iconic heritage buildings. His work has included projects such as the Roundhouse, Fremantle Prison, and re-carving sandstone moulds for the old Technical School in Fremantle.
About Andy
Andy began his career in the trades in 1989, completing an apprenticeship in plastering with the Public Works Department of Western Australia. After several years honing his skills, he moved to the Europe, where he gained valuable experience in stucco and mould work.
Upon returning to Australia, he became a TAFE lecturer, passing on his knowledge while continuing to refine his expertise.
After years of teaching, Andy established his own business in heritage plastering, specialising in architectural moulding and ornamental work. His craftsmanship and attention to detail set him apart in the industry.
Having worked alongside Andy for several years, we were lucky to have him join us as our Head Plasterer in 2022. His wealth of experience and dedication to the trade make him an invaluable part of our team.
