Lime plaster sets up to a solid mass that is durable yet relatively flexible.  It has been used as a construction material since the time of the Roman Empire with little change in how it is produced and applied. However, it fell out of favor in the early 20^th century due to the widespread production of Portland cement which was much harder when cured and easier to use than lime cement.  But the use of softer more porous lime mortar has many advantages when working with soft building materials like natural stone and clay brick. For this reason, while Portland cement continues to be commonly used in new constructions of hard brick and concrete, we would always recommended the use of a lime mortar in the restoration of any original brick or stone structure.

We are also one of the only specialist contractors in Western Australia with an extensive knowledge of lath and plaster ceilings and walls with our services including reattachment and repair. We can also replace it from scratch including any decorative cornice or ceiling roses using only original materials and methods.
